Bell Revolver Helmet - The New Modular

I recently had the chance to try on the New Revolver Modular Helmet from Bell and was very impressed with the fit and finish.  Similar in price-point and features to the Nolan N90S helmet, the Revolver has a drop down internal sun-shield with an easy switch mechanism which will work well with gloves.  The styling sets it apart from other Modular helmets as it looks more like a standard full face helmet rather than a bulky modular.  Color options include solids as well as one grapic dubbed the Rally.  Possibly the best feature on the Revolver is the ability to add Bell's Transitions Photochromatic Faceshield which is only offered by a limited number of manufacturers.  Look for these to start arriving next month. - Patrick

New Olympia in Hi-Viz

New Items from Olympia were released today including the new AST 2 Jacket and Moab Jacket.  Personally, Hi-Viz has not been my favorite color in the past, but the new versions of the both the AST and Bushwhacker jackets are much improved and look great with their new color blocking.  Hi-Viz gear has increased in popularity over the past few seasons with Olympia leading the charge.  Olympia has also released three new pants; Ranger 3 Pant, Recon 3 Mesh Pant, and women's Pro Max 2 Pant as well as a new women's version of the Ladies AST 2 Jacket. - Patrick

Protect Your Head(s)

After owning a BMW R1200GS and suffering from embarrassing slow speed tip-overs, I have found the the exposed soft magnesium heads are the initial contact point with the OEM guards appearing to be single use items.  Solution: AltRider BMW R1200GS Crash Bars which offer the best protection in comparison to the competition.  AltRider uses a well thought-out design to utilize secure mounting points on the bike to avoid costly damage to weaker mount locations and hardware.  They also make the bike much easier to lift when laying on its side. In addition to Crash Bars, AltRider offers a variety of Protection accessories for all the popular ADV touring bikes and are currently testing products for the new Yamaha Super Tenere.

ADV Show Stoppers

The Adventure Touring segment was the buzz at this years IMS Show in NYC.  The Triumph Tiger 800 XC and Yamaha Super Tenere both drew large crowds throughout the weekend and will be great alternatives to BMW.  Personally, the Triumph in white stole my heart with an attractive base price and a plethora of OEM accessories.  Jonah Street's Dakar bike even made it to the show to entice Northeast Adventurers.

Giant Loop - The Pannier Alternative

Over the years, I have been convinced that panniers were the best form of luggage for Adventure riding until I took a look at the Great Basin Saddlebag from Giant Loop.  After doing some more research, I also found that this luggage can fit about every type of bike available.  Fully waterproof, lightweight, and bombproof construction make this a great alternative to hard luggage.  Combined with internal pockets and dividers, access to all you gear is painless.  There have been a few times I have arrived at a campsite late at night only to find myself digging through my pannier to find my headlamp which worked its way all the way to the bottom :(  I found this bag is extremely easy to mount and remove as well which means you can easily leave it behind at camp for day trips exploring the trails.  Now which color to pick... - Patrick
